Leveraging AI to Facilitate the Integration of Local and Decentralised Renewable Energy

Université Laval and McGill University are leading two collaborative projects involving Hydro-Québec, Opal-RT and Vizimax (McGill University project). The technologies developed through these projects will make it easier to integrate locally produced, decentralised renewable energy into Hydro-Québec's grid, notably by leveraging artificial intelligence. This additional capacity is essential to meet the government's objectives for electrifying the economy and to achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission targets.

A Smart Tractor to Address Labour Shortages in the Agricultural Industry

The result of a collaboration between IVI and Elmec, a new concept for an autonomous, electric-powered agricultural robot has emerged in Québec. The tractor moves without operator assistance and navigates on its own to a mobile charging unit, recharges, and returns to work. A prototype was tested in a real-world environment, and the results were conclusive. The tractor-robot units will be assembled at Elmec's new plant in Trois-Rivières.
